Praying During A Pandemic

Posted by Karl Alsin on

Many Christians struggle with how to pray during times such as these.  We don’t face pandemics and world crises very often so it’s understandable that you might be in need of ideas about prayer.  Here’s a few ideas from the Bible combined with the natural intensity that occurs with a pandemic.  When you can’t think of your own words to pray, you can always pray using the words you read in the Bible.

Pandemics intensify our need to trust the Lord in uncertain times.

Psalm 46:1 – God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in a time of trouble.

Pray that people will see God in this way through His people.

Pandemics intensify the natural course of life.  They also intensify our own sense of mortality and frailty.

Psalm 90:12 – Teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Pray that God would draw people to Himself as they consider the fragile nature of life.

Pandemics intensify our desire to connect with people.

Our fast-moving lives have wreaked havoc on our relationships and yet we need to connect with people.

We were made for connection when we were made in the image of God.

Genesis 1:27 – God created man in His own image…male and female He created them.

Pray that God would use this time of quarantine and diminished connections to impress upon people their need for connections with others and for Christians to be in fellowship.

Pandemics intensify our need to pray.

Ephesians 6:18 - Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.

Pray that people would seek the Lord in prayer.

Pandemics intensify our need to be courageous and not give in to fear.

Joshua 1:9 - Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.

Pray that God’s people would be emboldened to live out their faith.

Pandemics intensify the need for unity in the Church.  The world is watching.

John 13:35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.

Pray for unity amongst Christians.

Pandemics intensify the need for missions.

Psalm 96:3 – Declare His glory among the nations.  (Read Psalm 96 in its entirety)
