Why are we offering online giving?

As technology has changed we are finding more of our congregation are doing banking on the internet. In our congregation there are a growing number of people who rarely use a traditional checkbook as all their bills are paid on-line or use a debit card exclusively. Online giving is a way for HCC to provide another method for giving.  Our move to add online giving is not to take away the worship aspect of giving but to simply provide an additional way for those that don’t want to write a check.

In Proverbs 3:9, we are taught to honor the Lord with the "First Fruits" of our labor. Some choose to give the first Sunday after payday.  One way you can do this if you choose online giving is by setting up a recurring contribution that is scheduled to come out of your account on the day you specify.

Q and A:

  • Q: Who should give online?
A: Online giving will benefit anyone who is looking for a another way to assure that their giving is consistent. This is simply an opportunity to meet the needs of those that prefer to manage their giving online versus writing a check. It may be used to give to the ministry of Hope Community Church on either a one-time or a recurring basis.
  • Q: What company is providing this service?
A:  We have partnered with sWipe Away Poverty for the processing of online transactions.  sWipe Away Poverty is a Christian credit cards processing company that gives a portion of its proceeds to Compassion International, sponsoring underprivileged children around the world.
  • Q: Is online giving safe?
A: Security is a top priority. That's why we've taken every step possible to make sure your data is secure and always available. Our online provider, sWipe Away Poverty utilizes 128-bit SSL security during the transmission of all sensitive information and is PCI compliant “Level 1” which is the highest level.  When you click to give online you will be taken to sWipe Away Poverty’s secure website (USAePay) to complete your transaction.
  • Q: Will my online gifts be included on my Statement of Contributions?
A: Yes, they will be included.
  • Q: How can I get a receipt of my online gift?
A: You will receive an email confirmation, which is acceptable as a valid receipt for tax purposes similar to the IRS acceptance of a canceled check.
  • Q: What if I am not a member of Hope Community Church, but want to make a donation?
A: You don't need to be a member.  You follow the same process described above, and you will receive an email confirmation, which is acceptable as a valid receipt for tax purposes.
  • Q: What are the benefits of online giving?
A: You can prioritize giving in your budget. Online giving may make it easier for those individuals that are used to doing online banking and bill paying to continue this mode of financial management when considering how best to donate to the church. It also offers an opportunity for you to schedule your online giving automatically and thus helps you eliminate missed tithes and gifts if you are traveling or have difficulty being consistent with your giving. We encourage you to use whatever means is most comfortable for you and helps make giving a part of your worship.

Disclaimer
While we have opened up the use of credit cards for giving, we still strongly encourage the use of debit card rather than credit card for two primary reasons: 1) Although many pay off their credit cards each month, many also do not. 2) We do not want to encourage someone to go into debt and pay interest on gifts given to the church. With automatic bill pay through your online banking, your entire gift goes to the church. When using a credit card or debit card,  as much as 2-3% of your gift can go to the credit card company.

Contribution Statement
We send out annual contribution statements. If you would like to request a contribution statement, or if you have any questions about your statement, please contact the church office.
