Cookies and white socks can be brought to Church on Sunday, December 15 or dropped off at the Church office from December 10-12 during our office hours (9:00 am-3:00 pm)
Last year almost 950 inmates in Thurston, Mason, Lewis, Grays Harbor, and Cowlitz, and Nisqually county/tribal jails benefited from this ministry. They expect a little higher number this year, since jail populations are increasing again. To accomplish this, they will need our help to collect 1,000 dozen cookies and 1,200 pair of new white cotton socks.
Please have the homemade cookies in non-returnable containers. They should be cookies, not brownies or bars. It is better if they are not too sticky or crumbly (so they don’t fall apart or stick to the other cookies when they are packaged).
Former inmates will assemble the inmate gifts, a plastic sandwich bags holding six cookies, a Christmas tract sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ, and a little note saying, “Cookies baked with love by Thurston County churches”, and on the back of the note is the verse John 3:16. The socks and Gideon pocket new testaments will be distributed at the jails with the gift, by the correctional officers. (Note: store-bought cookies are given to UGM or used for other events.
