Membership makes our commitment to Christ and his people visible through the local church. Our prayer is that membership at Hope Community Church would show those around us what God’s love looks like. We believe that all who have made a public profession of faith in Christ should be meaningfully involved in the local church. Therefore, we desire not just spiritual consumers but members who are actively involved in the life and health of the church. Below, you can read more about our process for becoming a member at HCC.
"For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into body..." 1 Cor. 12:12-13
Our Membership Matters class is the next step for those seeking to learn more about HCC, join a community, begin to serve, be baptized, and become a member.
This class, taught by HCC elders, walks through why it’s important to belong (membership), our past and future (church history), what we believe (doctrine), and how we live together (our membership covenant). By the end, you’ll have clear next steps for how to grow and get further connected. These classes take place during our Core Class hour on Sunday mornings from 9:00 to 9:50. This class runs for weeks. See below for the schedule and links to register. Note: This class is required for membership with HCC.
You can join the class at any time and take any missed classes in the next round.
The application covers basic information, your faith testimony, affirming your alignment with Hope Community Church’s doctrine, outlined in the Statement of Faith , and agreement with the Membership Covenant and Church Constitution. After you've completed the application, we'll reach out to schedule your meeting with an elder.
By filling out this form, you provide our elders with the information needed to start your membership process.
We will schedule a membership interview with you and two of the elders. This is an encouraging time for us to hear your testimony, affirm the gospel, and explore how Hope can care for you. The meeting takes about an hour for an individual or 1.5 hours for a married couple.
In this meeting with two of HCC elders, you'll discuss your application, cover basic doctrinal questions, and the member covenant. Don’t worry! This isn’t a try-out. If you follow Jesus, are participating in the life of the church, have taken the Membership Matters class, and have completed the application, you’ll do well. This is an additional opportunity for us to get to know you and for you to get to know us. Most find this is their favorite part of the process.
After your meeting, the elders will update the other elders so they can get to know you and pray for you. Together, they will make a recommendation to receive you as a member at the next Members’ Meeting. At the meeting, the congregation will hear the pastor recount parts of your testimony. Then, they vote to receive you into membership—a commitment to care for you as you care for us in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
